Currently Used Skill Sets
Recently Hugh's most used skill sets have involved installation and integration of blog engines with databases, SEO optimization, analytics and multimedia. Additionally, Hugh frequently works with Photoshop to deliver business-tailored graphics for web UI. Currently another hot area is social networking, and Hugh knows his way around Facebook, MySpace and YouTube as well as implementing plugins from said websites into third-party blogs. Hugh also frequently finds himself converting movie files to the proper compression parameters for uploads to YouTube. Hugh knows his way around Adobe Premiere when it comes to video editing, if necessary. On the programming end of things, Hugh frequently works to re-tool web controls in various third-party blog and e-commerce engines to tailor the packages to a customer's business. Currently Hugh's language of choice is C#.net or PHP, but he is also fluent in Perl and has worked extensively in Java for previous jobs.
The majority of Hugh's recent previous work positions have been telecommuting positions. References are available which will fully vouch for Hugh's trustworthiness and productivity as a telecommuting candidate upon request. Hugh would prefer to work a telecommuting position at this time, although an onsite job near North Miami may be considered depending upon the offer. Hugh maintains a fully equipped programming laboratory and multimedia production studio in North Miami and may be perhaps more productive when working in this environment. Although as mentioned, if the right offer with a short enough driving commute comes along, he may be tempted to work onsite.
Hugh is, however available for freelance work at any time. Please contact Hugh at (305) 490-5338 for details.
JOB EXPERIENCE:
Hugh has worked for a variety of high profile clients and companies over the years between 1995 and 2009, including Microsoft Corporation and the prestigious Camper and Nicholsons International. Hugh wrote a software program called Eloquently Stated which is still being sold at http://www.eloquentlystated.com.
With the economic crash of recent years, Hugh had decided to take a hiatus in 2009-2010 in respect to some deaths of family elders in 2009. Time has come full-circle and so Hugh has thrown his hat in the ring again, looking for some interesting work. Here are the highlights of Hugh's past work in the IT field:
August 1996 - April 2009
Senior Systems Engineer / Web Architect / Systems Administrator / Database Administrator,
Camper and Nicholsons International http://www.camperandnicholsons.com
Camper and Nicholsons is the world's oldest yacht brokerage and construction company, with headquarters in London, Monaco, Antibes, New York, Miami, Tokyo, and several other offices. Tasks included design and implementation of multiple world wide websites, including front-end public areas as well as back-end administrative tools and complete database design and integration with existing offsite databases. Included extensive construction of software tools for management which were used to track website contacts and referrals, currecny fluctuations, inventories and included a complex matrix for forwarding referrals around the world to the various offices based on client traffic. All back-end functionality was completely written by Hugh from the ground up over a 12 year period. Additionally Hugh responsibilities included maintenance of up to ten servers, including both Windows and Linux -- Windows was used for web servers and SQL databases, and Linux was used for DNS servers. This job was completely done via telecommuting for over 12 years. References furnished upon request.
Hugh started with CNI as an html programmer and promoted into a full fledged systems administrator and web architect in February of 2002 after leaving Tiaxa.
October 2000 - February 2002
Senior Software Engineer / Sr. Web Applications Developer Tiaxa, Inc.
Onsite and Off-site work
Tiaxa is a web-based Latin American portal located at www.tiaxa.com which features a web interface to wireless services, email, and other communications services. Originally hired on a contractual basis to restructure and upgrade the site from version 1.0 to version 2.0. Involved a complete re-write of all the ASP code as well as the creation of services. Involved optimization of ASP web site by upgrading SQL code used throughout the site, ensuring the use of pooled ADO connections, standardization of variables and other logical optimizations, not used in versions prior. Reverse- engineered this very complicated application from the ground up, implementing optimized code and administration. There was no documentation to work from so thorough analysis was required from day one.
Other tasks included the programming of Services running on Windows2000 which do scheduled tasks such as notification of email receipt and calendar events through SMS (Short Message Service) which are received on cellular phones. Also, architected applications for transmission of SMS messages from Tiaxa servers to remote WIS servers for large carriers.
Currently working on porting Windows applications to UNIX platform using Perl and C on UNIX. Include custom SMTP components using UNIX sockets and RPC interface. Also working with Perl DBI and object-oriented Perl to port current Windows-based applications to UNIX and Oracle. Use of MOD_PERL in both C and Perl.
Additionally, I implemented on Tiaxa a content management system of my own design which provides for complete content management of the web site, in multiple languages, by non-programmers, involving XML / DOM on the backend with no database calls. This tool is extremely helpful to the company because it is important to them to serve the exact same site on multiple domains in multiple languages, and my content administration system enables this for them, with one-time administration of multi- language content from one console. Also includes XML formatting with XSL.
September 1999 - October 2000

Other duties include Windows NT Server administration, Windows NT Server IIS 4.0 administration, implementation of ASP (Active Server Pages) involving database connectivity, use of RDS (remote data services involving IIS4.0) and database implementation and design using MS-Access as well as SQL Server.
